  2. Located in North San Diego County (locally referred to as “North County”) just inland from the beach cities, San Marcos has a population of about 85,000. San Marcos is known for having some of the best restaurants in the area as well as several golf courses. The San Marcos Unified School District, which serves San Marcos and surrounding communities including Vista, Carlsbad, Escondido, and some unincorporated areas of San Diego County, is one of the best school districts in the area (a huge plus for families with children. California State University San Marcos is also in the city and partners with schools in the San Marcos Unified School District to prepare students for college. The master-planned community of San Elijo Hills, part of the city of San Marcos, has homes for sale in newly-developed areas.

  4. The second largest city in the San Diego metropolitan area, Chula Vista has a population of roughly 250,000. Chula Vista is located in the South Bay region in the southern portion of San Diego County. It’s name in Spanish means “beautiful view”– referring to the views of San Diego Bay. It is part of a rich economic area and is very culturally diverse.

  6. Carlsbad is a seaside resort town in northern San Diego County. It has a population of roughly 113,000 people. Its seven miles of beach make it a popular city for tourists and surfers. Carlsbad is served by the San Marcos Unified School District, Encinitas Unified School District, Carlsbad Unified School District, and the San Dieguito Union High School District.
