Indoor Activities
The rain can sometimes put a damper on plans you had for the day. You may have wanted to go outside, talk a walk, ride bikes, run errands, etc. Don’t let the gloomy weather get you down! There are plenty of fun activities that you and the whole family can participate in indoors when weather isn’t permitting. Check out some of our favorites below!
Bake a Tasty Treat
Nothing will brighten your day more than baking a delicious treat. Choose from a variety of different desserts like brownies, cookies, cakes, and more. Browse recipes online and find one that everyone agrees on. Make sure you have all of the necessary ingredients and then designate a specific task to each person. The final result will be something sweet baked by the entire family!
Write Letters to Family and Friends
Send a letter to close family and friends! Technology allows us to easily send messages with a click of a button, however mailing a letter adds a personal touch, letting the person on the receiving end know that you are thinking about them and took the time to write them a special note. Young children can create drawings for their friends, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and more. Writing letters is a perfect way to connect with those you haven’t spoken to or seen in awhile.
Spark Creativity With Crafts
You can’t go wrong with craft time! From painting, to making slime or homemade play doh, there are numerous crafts for the whole family to enjoy that require little materials, but a lot of imagination and creativity.
Begin a Puzzle
Put your cognitive skills to the test by starting a jigsaw puzzle. If you have younger children, you may want to opt for a more kid-friendly puzzle. Teenagers and adults can attempt to tackle 500 to 1,000 piece puzzles with different levels of difficulty and designs.
Play a Board Game
Board games aren’t even slightly boring on a rainy day. Some of our favorites include Clue, Monopoly, Candy Land, The Game of Life, Sorry!, and Chutes and Ladders. If you’re feeling creative, you can even create your own game!
Read a Book Together
Read together as a family! Whether you choose to read the same book or pick your own, reading is a great experience to share. You can discuss different plots, question why something happened, and listen to other’s opinions.
Watch a Movie
Pop the popcorn, grab the blankets, and find yourself a comfy spot on the couch because it’s time to watch a movie. Create an in-home movie theater experience by giving your children printed “tickets” to present, offering them concessions, and providing comfortable seating. Choose a family-friendly movie that everyone will enjoy.
Enjoy Activities as a Family
When it rains, it doesn’t have to pour! There are a variety of different activities that you can choose from to make the most of your day indoors. And the best part, you don’t have to limit yourself to just one. Each person in your family can pick something that they would like to do, that way everyone has input and can share their passions. We hope you enjoy spending time with those you love the most and make memories to last a lifetime!
